MIPS Technologies announced that Taiwan-based ALi Corporation has joined MIPS Technologies' Early Access Program for the Android platform(tm) on the MIPS(r) architecture.  The Early Access Program provides a set of key strategic customers and partners access to specific Android on MIPS hardware and code optimizations and enhancements before they become publicly available. These customers -- including RMI Corporation and Sigma Designs -- are working closely with MIPS' engineering team, providing critical feedback and market expertise to drive Android beyond mobile handsets.

"ALi is committed to providing the most innovative solutions to our customers, and this includes being at the forefront of new technologies that will help them get differentiated solutions to market quickly," said Mr. Daniel Huang, CTO, ALi Corporation. "We are investing in Android for our MIPS-Based silicon platforms because we see its incredible potential to bring a new level of connectivity and a broad range of applications to our customers' next generation consumer electronics products."

"Bringing Android to its SoC designs is just another example of ALi's continued technological innovation," said Art Swift, vice president of marketing at MIPS Technologies. "By joining our Early Access Program for Android on MIPS, ALi is helping to extend Android into new devices in key areas for the digital home and portable entertainment markets. This relationship will enable ALi to deliver Android-based products to its customers as quickly and easily as possible."
