As part of its Xfinity Home monitoring and automation service Comcast is offering a new line of energy-efficient, “smart” LED light bulbs, developed by Osram Sylvanaia. According to Comcast the inclusion of remote control light bulb as part of a home security and automation service is the first from any service provider.

THe Osram Sylvania Ultra iQ LED BR30 light bulbs can save up to 83% in energy costs. According to Sylvania the new bulb is designed to have a life of 35,000 hours and last up to 17.5 times longer than standard incandescent light bulbs.

"With Osram Sylvania, we are bringing innovative lighting solutions that integrate with the Xfinity Home platform and provide home control and green technology features to our customers,” said Mitch Bowling, the SVP and GM of new businesses for Comcast Cable.

Sylvania 'smart' light bulbs are based on the Zigbee Home Automation standard, allowing to wirelessly control the light bulb. The light bulb can be control by the Xfinity Home app and is dimmable to 5%.

"This is another example of how we are continuing to evolve our Xfinity Home product by creating more innovative home control solutions for our customers to enjoy," added Bowling. The pricing and availability of the smart light bulb is due to release later.
