Semitech Semiconductor Powerline communication SoC (System-0n-Chip) solution has been selected by GK Smart Energy for European Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) deployment. The Semitech SM6401 chipset will be integrated into the GK Smart Energy Solutions AMI platform, which allows operators to remotely manage smart meters, street lights and connected machines.

The GK smart metering applications allow utilities providers and home owners access to the smart meter via a regular powerline connection. Utilities will be able to collect usage information in near real-time to generate bills. Home owners will see up to date information on their energy usage and be able to adjust their life style where necessary.

GK’s CTO Thomas Grieche, believes the combination of both solutions has created a sustainable AMI solution and Semitech’s SM6401 chip forms part of the equation in enabling “highly reliable communications, over long distances with high packet throughput”.

Mike Holt, Semitech's vice president said, “GK SES has brought their smart grid systems expertise to leverage the unique capabilities of the Semitech products to deliver the industry's best AMI solutions."
