MIPS To Embed Yahoo Widget Engine In Digital Home Devices

MIPS Chip TechnologyMIPS and Yahoo have partnered to develop a platform with Yahoo Widgets already integrated. The agreement is that MIPS will develop an optimised reference platform running the Yahoo Widget Engine for digital TV and set-top box applications.  This partnership will enable vendors to develop consumer solutions based on the MIPS architecture incorporating Yahoo Widget Engine.

According to Art Swift MIPS Vice President of Marketing “Yahoo TV Widgets are capable of providing an entirely new connected and personalised television viewing experience” According to analyst firm IDC, MIPS currently accounts for over half the processors in the digital TV marketplace.   Therefore, collaborating with Yahoo a recognise internet and consumer brand can only be profitable.

“MIPS technology is the leading architecture platform for digital multimedia solutions.  The MIPS architecture is the market-share leader in processor architectures for digital TVs, digital cable set-top boxes, digital satellite receivers, digital video recorders, DVD players, Blu-ray disc players and IPTV set-top boxes. “By combining our TV widget technology with the global distribution partners like MIPS Technologies, we will further enable consumers to access the exciting content developed by Yahoo and third-party developers across a broad range of living room devices”. Said Arlo Rose of Yahoo.
