sky deutschlandLeading pay TV provider Sky Deutschland has selected Broadcom SoC solution (BCM7325 and BCM7335) for its next generation HD Set-top Box and DVR (Digital Video Recorder) services.  Sky Deutschland provides satellite, cable and internet services to approximately 95 percent of Germany and 85 percent of Austria. The new energy-efficient single chip solution will help Sky to provide multi-channel high definition viewing and digital video recording functionality for subscribers.

The BCM7235 single chip will be used by Sky non-DVR set-top box and the BCM will be at the heart of Sky Deutschland’s first integrated digital video recorder called the Sky+.

“Broadcom’s advanced satellite set-top box technology provides best-in-class integration, performance and energy-efficiency, enabling us to offer our subscribers advanced functionality, while also reducing power and energy requirements in the home,” said Gerry Duffy, Senior VP of Technology, Sky Deutschland.

Both solutions support MPEG4 and integrate with NDS MediaHighway STB software to enable Flash-based user interface, NDS VideoGuard for security and advance services.  They also support the European Commission’s (EC) Code of Conduct (CoC) on Energy Efficiency of Digital TV Services Systems to lower power consumption.
