Sony has announced that they will be integrating the Opera browser into their Bravia television and Sony Blu-ray players.  Earlier this month, at CES Sony demonstrated a new range of Blu-ray players that they will be rolling throughout this quarter. The integration of Opera on the television will give users a more intuitive user interface from the television and a platform that is more web friendly.

Opera has also just released and upgraded version of its Opera Devices SDK (Software Development Kit) to 2.8, which now supports HTML 5 video, new Carakan JavaScript engine, improve HbbTV, plus additional features. "The web as we know it is evolving, and we are committed to making it more accessible across diverse devices,” said Christen Krogh, chief development officer at Opera.

Customers with this new line of entertainment solutions whether on the television on Blu-ray player will be able to do a lot more browsing from their television.  Sony has already rolled out a Google TV based range of televisions, by adding an Opera model will widen the choice for some customers and another solution to those who haven’t got access to Google TV yet.

"Our ability to address key hybrid broadcast-broadband initiatives in numerous markets makes us a natural fit with Sony. By delivering both a global viewpoint and the necessary technology, we are able to stay on the cutting edge of the industry," added Krogh.
