Motorola's New Range of SURFboard Modems & Home Gateways

Motorola’s Home & Network Mobility business this week announced a new range of it’s SURFboard DOCSIS 3.0 modem and integrated gateways.  The new devices is designed to deliver better broadband and IP-based voice and data service.  This new range of SURFboard is two times faster than their previous range of DOCSIS 3.0 products and supports high-bandwidth Gigabit Ethernet (GiGe) home networking and channel bonding of up to eight downstream and four upstream channels.

Bewan announced the new Bewan iBox C5200 (image) solution a truly multi-play cable gateway designed to enable cable operators and multi-service operators (MSO) to deliver blazing broadband speeds and media-rich services to subscribers. The solution comes with Bewan Licensing Program, a residential gateway firmware that enables strict control of operational expenditure (OPEX) and reduces significantly customer support costs.

Home GatewayLight Reading has projected an increase in Home Gateway over the next 24 months.  The report cited the increase convergence of home appliance and the need for a digital lifestyle.  The increase demand for home gateway is also down to its modern architecture and versatility over the standard home modem.  With more and more new digital home solution and the popularity of VoIP technology is also fuelling the demand for home gateways. The author sees this increase as an opportunity for service providers (SP).

The mobile reception in his home is bad.  For most of the time tmobile calls are inaudible or disconnect during the conversation. Because of this he avoids mobile calls when he is at home.
