NTT docomo

Today the world received its first dual mode femtocell or small-cell base station supporting both 3G and LTE simultaneously.  Developed by NTT DOCOMO, the new femtocell units will make it even easier for homes in mobile signal dead spot to remain connected.

The Femtocell device is plug-and-play and provides 3G/LTE service coverage in a range of up to a long distance, depending on actual conditions. It automatically configures itself upon connection to the surrounding devices in its surroundings.

NTT DOCOMO, Inc. announced today the development of a highly compact indoor base transceiver station, or femtocell BTS, that supports extra-fast data communication and highly practical services under DOCOMO's "Home Area" concept of linking mobile phones to the DOCOMO network via broadband connection in the home.

NTT DOCOMO and PacketVideo Corporation announced that DOCOMO has acquired a 35-percent stake in PacketVideo for $45.5 million. The all-cash transaction, effective immediately, is intended to strengthen DOCOMO`s position in advanced music and video services in Japan. Both companies have been sharing technology solutions since 1998, which has seen PacketVideo`s multimedia applications being incorporated in DOCOMO`s FOMA 3G mobile network services. To date, PacketVideo`s popular CORE multimedia player, pvPlayer, has been installed in more than 90 DOCOMO handset models.
