It is no joke when we said the home has become a fierce battle ground for connected technologies, and 2017 is the year of the smart speaker.  Already this year most of the well known brands have announced dates for release or plans to develop their own smart speaker solution.  Therefore, I can see a smart speaker being high on the shopping list for Christmas 2017.  Underneath the elegant and smooth designs will be one of four voice control systems Apple Siri, Google Assist, Microsoft's Cortana or Amazon Alexa. Users with PCs using Intel's 7th Gen Core processors will be able to experience 4K picture quality from Sony ULTRA.  Sony announced that they will debut SPHE's movie streaming service on computers powered by 7th Gen Intel Core processors beginning Q1 in 2017.  Intel said the new service will take advantage of the processor's new hardware security technologies and offers far richer entertainment experiences and incredible performance and responsiveness.  In addition to the new movie service users can expect longer battery life.

Sony is offering Playstation gamers a new on-demand cloud based TV service called Palystation Vue.  Playstation Vue, according to Sony allows you to access live TV and on-demand content without a cable or satellite service.  Sony said the new service offers the best of live TV plus a comprehensive catalog of the latest content to viewers.

If you didn't get a Television deal in the Black Friday or Christmas sales then wait because the new BRAVIA televisions coming from Sony this year is worth looking over.  The new range has four new series and 10 new models to choose from with the added benefit, they offer 4k Ultra HD image quality. New features include better access to content and image quality, connectivity with Google Android TV plus direct access to Playstation games.

Sony is making it easier to integrate its home entertainment systems with the Control4 home automation solution.  They have adapted the Control4's Simple Device Discovery Protocol (SDDP) technology as part of its W and X series 2014 TVs.  The integration makes it easier for installer to setup Sony's HD and 4K ultra HDTVs as part of a Control4 home automation solution.

Onwers of the latest Sony 4K Ultra HDTVs are to be given access to the world’s largest library of 4K VOD content via the NanoTech UltraFlix app.  Starting with Sony's 2014 range viewers will be able to stream more than 300 hours of 4K quality travel and nature documentaries, including 40 made for IMAX theatrical titles and other genres.

The CEA (Consumer Electronics Association) judges have done their examination and have release the 2014 International CES list of Best of Innovations Design and Engineering Award Honorees. The judges look products across 28 consumer electronics product categories; they have also added extra categories this year: 3D Printing and Additive Manufacturing and Wearable Technologies. The "Best of Innovations Design and Engineering Award" honors products and solutions that demonstrate outstanding design and engineering advancements. The CEA said they saw a record number of entries this year (See Photos).

For 2014, the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) has awarded Sony four “Best of Innovations Honoree” Awards.  The honorees were picked from 28 consumer product categories, which now include 3D Printing and Additive Manufacturing, Wearable Technologies and In-Vehicle Experience. From these Sony was able to walk away with awards in Digital Imaging, Headphones, Home Audio/Video Components and Tablets, EReaders & Mobile Computing. To make it five their HT-ST7 Sound Bar received an Innovations Design and Engineering Award in the Home Theater Speakers category.

It felt like a very short while ago 1080 HD TV was the must have television. I haven’t even swap out my Sony CRT yet saying I will wait until the price settle and the technology matured – yes, despite loving technology I’m not an early adaptor.  Now, with the introduction of ultra HD 4K TVs I might have to skip HD to Ultra HD.  4K Television not only promise better quality pictures but bigger screens as well, with 50in being the minimum.
