Global Digital TV Market Forecast for 2020

Based on forecasts for 138 countries, global digital TV installation is set to accelerate over the next few years up to 2020. Homes with digital TV will increase to about 1.68 billion within the same period; 2014 alone will see an increase of 131 million, according to The Digital TV World Household Forecasts report from Research and Markets.  Digital cable TV will become the most popular accounting for 33.6% of the world's TV households.

It felt like a very short while ago 1080 HD TV was the must have television. I haven’t even swap out my Sony CRT yet saying I will wait until the price settle and the technology matured – yes, despite loving technology I’m not an early adaptor.  Now, with the introduction of ultra HD 4K TVs I might have to skip HD to Ultra HD.  4K Television not only promise better quality pictures but bigger screens as well, with 50in being the minimum.

Channel Islands and Isle of Man Get Hybrid TV Services

France’s Neuilly-sur-Seine has partner with Getgem’s hybrid IPTV services to its customer base in Channel Islands and the Isle of Man. Neuilly-sur-Seine is already a broadband provider in both areas; with the Netgem solution Neuilly-sur-Seine will be able to Over the Top (OTT) live and non-linear content to Netgem’s hybrid Set-top boxes (STB).
 

Telstra Launched Connected Home Services in Australia

Telstra is in the process of upgrading its infrastructure to introduce Australians to next generation connected home services.  As connected home services begin to take shape in the country Telstra wants to be the key provider of these services.  Telstra is proposing a host of services such as content streaming from ABC’s iView catch up TV and AFL Live, home monitoring, gaming and in home support.

They found that new digital home solutions such as cloud services, social and mobile TV are changing the way we see our home appliances. Also consumer wants more content and connection. They also found that the new connected services have created additional revenue streams for service providers.

UK Connected Home Market Could Worth £3bn Per Year

The UK’s technology trade association Intellect has published a report in which it predicts the UK’s connected home market could worth £3bn a year within the next five years. The report entitled “Connected Home – a Reality” looks at elements of the connected home and offers guidance on making it a reality for everyone.
