Want to know where the smart grid projects are in Europe? Through data collected by the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC) and in partnership with Eurelectric, an interactive map has been developed to show active projects. Apparently there are over 200 active smart grids on the go in Europe at the moment.  The map is to provide up to date information on active projects.

As we get closer to 2020 many EC (European Commission) members are making changes to their grid infrastructure to achieve the 2020 target. The interactive map said both bodies, is a knowledge-sharing platform to provide public information on smart grids projects within the EC.

Projects

“Initiatives on smart grids have been growing in number and scope throughout Europe for the past few years”, said JRC and EURELECTRIC. “To further support the transition to the intelligent power system of tomorrow, (we) have developed this online knowledge-sharing platform to provide public information on smart grids projects.”

By clicking on the links on the map visitors will learn which organisation is leading the project, how long the project is expected to run, the project category, a brief description of the project and a link to more information. See the map here.

Both organisation promised to continue to update and develop the map and added, “We hope that this website will provide a useful tool to share and pool the research, technological development and demonstration results of the different smart grids projects that exist throughout Europe.”
