Rogers of Canada announced plans to launch a home control solution that will manage household appliances, security, temperature and lighting. The new solution is called Rogers Smart Home Monitoring, and will offer real-time home monitoring plus energy management and home automation to Canada’s connected homes. The addition of this service to its cable, Internet and wireless business has put Rogers among the top suppliers of connected home solutions.

Rogers said the Smart Home Monitoring solution has moved away from the old way of doing things. “While the rest of the industry competes for a slice of a shrinking pie, we’re also focused on growing a new one, said Chief Executive Nadir Mohamed.

He said LTE-capable 700 megahertz spectrum has emerged as the next-generation wireless of choice in the U.S. and Europe and that Industry Canada must ensure that all carriers here have access to it.

Security systems are commonplace in Canadian households but operate on traditional phone lines and only connect with a network when a problem arises. The new system is Internet protocol (IP) base, thus offering real-time and continuous access home systems.

According to the Toronto Sun, Rogers also plans to leverage its capital to focus on machine-to-machine management and new ways to deliver digital media across all platforms.
