Rovi Corporation has decided to spread it tentacles wider in the digital home solutions market place with the acquisition of Sonic Solutions. Both companies made the joint announcement last week that the Rovi will acquire Sonics in through a combination of stocks and shares worth about $720 million US dollars. Boxee announced that they have licences the RoxioNow entertainment platform from Sonic Solutions.  Boxee said the alliance is to give the public more options to access premium content for a range of connected devices.  The RoxioNow platform will be Boxee’s choice platform to its web-to-TV desktop application, as well as upcoming set-top boxes, mobile devices and TVs.*

Sonic Solutions, announced plans to introduce a Roxio CinemaNow(R) Widget. Starting this fall, consumers with Internet-connected televisions running Yahoo! TV Widgets will be able to find, rent and purchase Hollywood's hit movies from the Roxio CinemaNow service instantly on their connected TVs. Read more »
