Lakeland Electric, Florida’s third largest public power utility, has selected Oracle Utilities Meter Data Management and Oracle Service Bus to support its smart grid initiatives.  As a recipient of Federal funding under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), Lakeland Electric chose Oracle solutions to help manage the vast quantity of customer energy consumption data that it will gather from a deployment of 125,000 smart electric meters. The utility plans to use Oracle Utilities Meter Data Management to verify, store, process and format the data, providing every department, application and business process with the metering information it needs.

“By choosing Oracle Utilities for our smart grid initiative, we will enable our customers to better manage their own energy use by connecting AMI usage data and presentment tools. Working with Oracle, we are able to realize our smart grid goals,” said Randy Dotson, project manager, Smart Grid Initiative, Lakeland Electric.

Further, the solution will enable Lakeland Electric to connect advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) usage data and presentment tools, helping to empower customers to effectively monitor and manage their energy use. The utility will use the energy usage data collected through smart meters for future time-of-use rate design.

“We are pleased to support Lakeland Electric as it embraces the full potential of the smart grid. Oracle Utilities Meter Data Management will enable the utility to retain the flexibility needed to configure an IT system to meet the goals of any smart grid initiative, now and in the future,” said Bill Vellante, group vice president, Oracle Utilities.
