Scandinavian broadband, TV and telephone provider Canal Digital- part of the Telenor Group has formed a strategic partnership with TiVo, the advance television service provider, in an effort to offer Nordic viewers some the most advance television services. Under the Agreement the TiVo services will be available to Telenor’s Canal Digital Direct-to-Home satellite customers in Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland.

The TiVo product will be available exclusively through Canal Digital where it will serve as Canal Digital's next generation platform, seamlessly integrating linear satellite and terrestrial TV channels, Canal Digital's video-on-demand service, and a variety of current and future "OTT" services.

The partnership will also see both companies combining their respective technologies; Canal Digital gets access to TiVo's feature-rich and consumer friendly television software, while avoiding significant in-house development costs and the complexity of piecemeal alternatives. It will also see the introduction of Canal Digital first networked box using the TiVo software to provide a variety of ground-breaking capabilities like universal search, home networking, and integration with mobile devices.

"The Scandinavian pay TV market is one of the most competitive in the world, which means that Canal Digital must continue to offer the market's best content and user experience. After considering many partners who could help us deliver this promise, we concluded that TiVo was head and shoulders above the rest," said Christian Albech, CEO of Telenor Broadcast Holding AS.
