Telvent, the leading real-time IT solutions and information provider for a sustainable world, announced today that its advanced distribution management (ADMS) smart grid solution was evaluated in a recent report released by Gartner Inc., the world's leading information technology research and advisory company.

The report, "MarketScope for Advanced Distribution Management Systems," written by Randy Rhodes and Zarko Sumic and published on March 29, 2011, examined the capabilities and offerings of global smart grid solutions providers who offer ADMS.

According to Telvent's chairman and CEO, Ignacio Gonzalez, "We are proud that our solution rated among the group of leading global smart grid solutions providers; we believe this is a true testament to our leadership in the smart grid arena. Our solution has recently evolved to help several important utilities address operational strategies and we will continue to invest in meeting the future needs of companies around the globe."

Telvent DMS is fully integrated with Telvent OASyS DNA supervisory control and data acquisition system (SCADA), creating a powerful ADMS real-time solution that assists utilities in the planning, operation and analysis of their power distribution system. With one centralized database, the opportunities for errors are reduced. Its functionality also helps utilities minimize power loss, solve service disruptions faster and optimize existing infrastructure to reduce or delay the need for new capital investments. Telvent ADMS provides an accurate distribution forecast that helps curb energy loss and reduces power generation costs by effectively moving power that is already on the grid, instead of generating addition energy.

New and enhanced functionality will be released shortly as well as full integration with Telvent Responder, the outage management system today installed in many electric utilities around the world. Electric vehicles, distributed generation and integration of renewable energy sources, together with many other key functionalities will become part of the ADMS product in the following releases to tackle the challenges presented by the smart grid revolution.

Telvent ADMS helps utilities manage power for 66 million customers worldwide in more than 20 countries. The ADMS solution from Telvent is presently installed at multiple customers in Asia and Europe. The solution is in deployment phase in North America within customers such as Progress Energy and University of Michigan in the United States, and BC Hydro and Hydro One in Canada. More than thirty major utilities around the world utilize Telvent ADMS including Enel in Italy, Inter-Regional Distribution Grid Company of Russia and China South Grid Company Guizhou Electric Power Company.
