Now Sophos Wants to Protect our TVs from Viruses

It is the operating systems on our TVs that make it smart and with most of us now buying smart TVs there is an emerging threat of hackers writing infectious malware to infect our televisions. This has lead Sophos to form partnership with Ocean Blue to developed an antivirus software for smart TVs. The solution combines Sophos antivirus platform with Ocean Blue’s middleware for smart TVs and Set-top Boxes.

Sony Launches NSZ-GS7 Internet Player For UK Google TV Services

Google and Sony are sticking to their partnership to develop the Google TV platform.  For the first time Google TV services will be available outside the US. Sony has announced that its Google Android base NSZ-GS7 player will be available in the UK, in July. According to Sony the new Internet player is due to launch in Canada next followed by Australia, France, Germany and Netherlands, Brazil and Mexico.

MIPS Continues Android For Home With SmartCE Platform

MIPS is back this year At CES to show us how far they have reached with their Android work. The company has unveiled a new SmartCE (Connected Entertainment) platform. SmartCE is designed to provide a connected experience with integrated support for Home Jinni ConnecTV application, Adobe Flash Platform for TV, Android, Skype, social media and other platforms. According to MIPS president Art Swift, SmartCE complements other connected platforms like Yahoo! Connected TV and can be extended to Google TV.

Sigma Processor Powers DViCO TVIX Xroid A1 Android Media Player

Sigma work on Android for the home has begun the gear fruit announced that DViCO has selected their SMP8656 Secure Media Processor for its TVIX Xroid A1 Android based connected media player. The TVIX Xroid A1 is DViCO first Android-based Over-the-Top (OTT) media player and is part of the company’s plan to develop an Android-based  product line to support the growing Connected Home market. The TVIX Xroid A1is the first Android connected media player on the market to use Sigma's SMP8656 media processor.

Trident and ARM Collaborate On Set-top Box Platform for Internet TV Services

armTrident and ARM have collaborated to develop a new Set-top Box platform that according to both companies offers the best of Web 2.0 and media broadcasting.  Built on the ARM powerful Cortex-A Series processors, the new Trident Set-top Box, they said, will allow users to browse the internet, view TV programming, run rich internet applications and share various media content anywhere and anytime.  Also operators will be better able to target their content package to maximise advertising revenue.
