Ofcom Report on UK Telecom Infrastructure with Broadband Quality Map

Entrepreneurs and house hunters can now check the quality of broadband speed in a prospective area they are planning to move to.  The British telecom regulator Ofcom has produced an interactive map that gives an estimate of what speed you can expect from the different administrative regions. They have have also published an infrastructure report highlighting the current state of the UK telecom infrastructure (fixed broadband and wireless 2G/3G) and how it is being used.

Everything Everywhere and BT Trial 4G Wireless In Rural Britain

Britain has kicked off its 4G trial for mobile broadband. The county of Cornwall was selected by BT and Everything Everywhere two of the country’s leading telecom providers.  The technology which promises to offer better wireless broadband speed for those in rural areas where wired is not feasible.  The telegraph said Around 200 households in St. Newlyn East and South Newquay are selected to participate in the trial.

Intamac Systems has upgraded its home monitoring solution to include truly wireless home access to the home to monitor their Intamac system. The upgrade also provides a simple way for mobile operators to enter the connected home market, and to provide their customers with a range of new added value services. Before, customers needing the service would need to have a broadband connection within their homes in order to access Intamac web-based service portal.

QNX Offers Connected Home and In-Car Infotainment

4Home and Verizon Dubut 4G LTE Connected Home Service

4Home and Verizon Wireless have debut a 4G LTE connected home service at this weeks CE Show in Las Vegas. Both businesses said the service will leverage each other technologies to offer subscribers real-time remote monitoring and control of their home’s and their energy consumption. Through a simple user interface on the computer, smartphone or tablet Verizon’s customers control and monitor their home.
