German Electric Vehicles to Support HomePlug Green PHY

The HomePlug Green PHY standard allows which allows networking capable home appliances to communicate with the smart grid infrastructure will be supported for German electric vehicles. In an accouchement at the computex show in Taipei, the major German car manucfacturers (Audi, BMW, Daimler, Porsche and Volkswagen) working through the Coordination Office Charging Interface said they will support the HomePlug’s IEEE 1901 Profile Green PHY standard for charging electric vehicles.

GK Smart Energy Selected Semitech for Advanced Metering

Semitech Semiconductor Powerline communication SoC (System-0n-Chip) solution has been selected by GK Smart Energy for European Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) deployment. The Semitech SM6401 chipset will be integrated into the GK Smart Energy Solutions AMI platform, which allows operators to remotely manage smart meters, street lights and connected machines.

Toshiba Buys Smart Meter Maker Landis+Gyr for $2.3 bln

Toshiba Japan has announced the acquisition of Swiss electronic metering company Landis+Gyr AG for $2.3 billion in cash. This purchase will give Toshiba access to one of the smart grid’s market leading component suppliers’ customer base. They also grow their share of the global smart-grid market which is predicted to grow to $71 billion over the next decade, according to Toshiba.

eMeter Enters Korean Smart Grid Market With Samsung SDS

Hitachi Leads Hawaiian Island Maui, Smart Grid Project

The Hawaiian island of Maui is about to become the site of a major Smart Grid project, to demonstrate the latest in smart grid technology.  The project is will be spearheaded by the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) with Hitachi as the lead coordinator and project leader. The project comprises of a mixture of U.S. and Japanese businesses: Cyber Defense Institute, Sharp, Mizuho Bank, Hewlett-Packard Japan, JFE Engineering and Hitachi.

US and Japanese Businesses Selected For Hawaiian Smart Grid Project

A group of U.S. and Japan companies comprising of Hitachi, Mizuho Bank, Hewlett-Packard Japan, JFE Engineering and Cyber Defense Institute have been selected as contractors for joint "Project" collaboration supporting a world-leading Smart Grid project on Maui, a Hawaiian island that will serve as the Project site. The Project will be spearheaded by the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization ("NEDO"). Hitachi will take a leading role and coordinate the entire project, serving as the project leader.
