eMeter has announced that it successfully completed the integration of its eMeter EnergyIP platform with CPS Energy's SAP IS-U EhP5 system. This integration enables CPS Energy, the largest municipally owned utility in the United States with a 1.1 million meter service territory in San Antonio, TX, to provide its customers with real-time energy usage information and enhanced metering services. It also represents the first integration in the world between a Meter Data Usage System (MDUS) and SAP's recently released IS-U EhP5 system.

CPS Energy now provides 40,000 of its customers with 15 minute, hourly and daily energy consumption information through its new web portal. This is made possible through the use of eMeter EnergyIP's interval data framing service, which aggregates data into hourly and daily consumption values. CPS Energy also uses eMeter EnergyIP's real-time validation and estimation service to ensure that customers have timely and accurate information.

"At CPS, we have a history of embracing technological innovation to improve services for our customers," said Lawanda Parnell, CPS Energy's Senior Director of Enterprise Application Delivery. "eMeter's SAP MDUS solution allowed us to integrate eMeter EnergyIP to SAP with virtually no additional customization, dramatically reducing our AMI integration costs. We are now well-poised to give our customers the information they need to manage their energy usage."

In addition to providing energy consumption information, CPS Energy also provides its customers with enhanced metering services such as remote connects/disconnects and on-demand reads. Additional future services include time-of-use rate plans and demand response programs. CPS Energy plans to replace all electric meters and retrofit gas meters with smart meters by the end of 2016.

"Many utilities are facing challenges in scalable and easily customized integration of their existing systems as they deploy smart meter solutions," said Gary Bloom, eMeter CEO and President. "As our first customer to utilize this version of eMeter's SAP MDUS and the first global utility to implement SAP IS-U EhP5, CPS Energy is already realizing their Smart Grid goals and making energy literacy a reality for their customers."
