A year after the joint marketing partnership between TiVo and Best Buy, TiVo this week announced the released of their TiVo Premiere and TiVo Premiere XL set-top boxes. The new set of Digital Video Recorder (DVR) combines access to cable programming, on-demand movies, music and web videos all in the same box. The premiere set-top boxes offer 1080p HD quality playback to your television screen.  According to TiVo, TiVo Premiere is the new all in one set-top box that gives you access to all the entertainment on your television for cable, movie and music.

TiVo premiere offers superb searching ability that integrates broadcast and broadband.  Results from program search come from all corners of the web whether it’s on on-demand service such as Amazon, Netflix or Blockbuster.  You also get result from digital premium channel or from YouTube, searching is unified so that you don’t have to search each individually.

Browsing is much easier on the TiVo Premiere.  There are fewer screens to visit and using the high definition extra room you get to what you want quicker.  Browsing content is just as easy; Shows are organised by category or topic.  You can browse by Emmy Award winning television shows or Oscar Award winning movies.  There is a rich browsing interface, the movie poster and TV logo is display with the title.  TiVo Premiere even take it a bit further; there is a database of information available for you to learn more about actors and their association, simply by clicking on show or actor and you can view their entire entertainment resume and Cast list.

TiVo’s partnership with Pandora and FrameChannel and others will allow us to access some of the best of what the web has to offer.  There are up to 1,000 content widgets of the personal and commercial content ranging from stock quotes, news update, sports, tweets, weather and photos.

The TiVo premiere set-top boxes are built on Adobe Flash platform.  (see Flash Digital Home Platform) and features HD recording time of up to 45 hours or 400 hours for standard definition – on TiVo Premiere and 150 hours  HD or 1350 hours standard – on TiVo Premiere Plus.
