Entropic Communications and Zoran Corporation have announced that both companies will be collaborating on a new MoCA (Multimedia over Coax) 2.0 Set-top box reference platform. The platform will help to speed up the development of MoCA 2.0-enabled IP-based set-top-boxes as service providers move to IP gateway/client architectures in the home.

Entropic will integrate its MoCA 2.0 silicon and software with Zoran’s SupraXD 288 processor, to create new range of client products with enhanced flexibility, high speed performance and backward interoperability to existing MoCA 1.1 networks. These will enable service providers and their original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to harness the power of MoCA 2.0.

MoCA 2.0 as a home IP media gateway offers many advantages which includes an extremely reliable, high throughput connection; it is fully backwards compatible with previous MoCA 1.x solutions. It allows for the seamless deployment of new operator services while the old technology is remove.  The platform is also built to support tomorrow’s bandwidth-intensive services and applications.

"Our cooperation with Zoran allows us to bring to life the service provider vision of the gateway/client architecture," said Vinay Gokhale, senior vice president of Marketing and Business Development at Entropic Communications. "Our MoCA 2.0 reference platform changes the service provider paradigm, allowing them to offer new revenue-generating services and applications that ultimately take advantage of the speed, capacity and affordability delivered by a MoCA 2.0-based IP client set-top-box."
