Liberty Global Promises New Multimedia Home Gateway

Liberty Global (LGI) has promised to deliver the Home Gateway the European market has been waiting for. The company announced that they are partnering with some of the world’s biggest names in consumer electronics development and supplies, to build the best home gateway yet.  The new home gateway promises to revolutionise how the connected home access, consume and share digital content.

According to Liberty Global the new multimedia home gateway will be an all IP platform capable of distributing voice, data and video throughout the home and to multiple devices. The Flash based user interface will integrate, video content, Apps and advance search and recommendation engine.

Consumers everywhere are increasingly demanding smart, elegant and simple tools to navigate, share and enjoy their video content. Together with our partners, we are making this experience a reality for our customers." Said Mike Fries  Liberty Global's President and CEO.

The collaboration will involve Intel, Samsung, NDS and Nagravision. Samsung will build the multimedia home gateway, which will be powered by the Intel Atom CE Media Processor. The middleware and the user experience will be provided by NDS world leading MediaHighway(R) middleware technology and based on Flash Technology. Nagravision will provide the conditional access solution through NAGRA Media Access. This solution will support MoCA and WiFi, and participate in the Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) ecosystem.
