PacketVideo this week released TwonkyServer 6.0 and TwonkyServer 2.0 Two of the main softwares that form its Twonky connected home suite. They are the industry’s most popular connected home solutions with more than 3 million installations. The new versions offer more flexibility, interchangeable user interface and a faster scanning engine and well as some industry’s first.

TwonkyServer 6.0

Better Content Management:TwonkyServer 6.0 now features a new content aggregator facility, which aggregates media located on multiple PCs or other media servers/host devices throughout your home, into one cohesive view.

Unlike iTune and Windows Media Player but like NuVo Music Port Server there is no need to switch between the different devices which host your media files, TwonkyServer scan and list all the files for you.  You can also tell Twonky which device(s) not to scan.  It when scanning TwonkyServer finds duplicate files it acts intuitively and can hide duplicate file from the library.

Auto Copy of Mobile Data:Your Twonky software can be configure to copy all media files it finds on discovered host devices to a master storage area/device.  You can set it to auto or manually configure it to copy from specific devices.  Auto Copy also works from devices running other Twonky products including mobile devices running TwonkyServer Mobile, as well as with PCs running Windows Media Player 11.

"The new content aggregation and auto copy features stand alone in making media sharing as easy as possible for our users with mobile devices or media on more than one PC. We feel ease of use is the single most important factor in continuing to bring media sharing to mainstream consumers, and we've been able to achieve this without sacrificing more advanced options for hardcore early adopters," said Rick Schwartz, PV senior product manager.

Additional Features to Enhance the Connected home Experience

TwonkyManager 2.0 incorporates new functionality that enhances the way users can find, beam and enjoy their media on connected devices throughout their home network. TwonkyManager now has the ability to work with NAS (network Attach Storage) devices or Windows Home Server and better support for networked TVs such as Samsung, Panasonic, Pioneer, Sony and more.

The TwonkyManager now offers thumbnails for better browsing. It also offers two different skins to choose from and also incorporates the option to install TwonkyBeam for Internet Explorer and Firefox.
