How UK Universities Are Playing Key Role In The Smart Grid Revolution

Inline with current trends to reduce C02 emissions and other harmful greenhouse gases the UK is pulling out all the stops to modernise its power grid infrastructure.  Up and down the country, there are smart grid projects and pilot schemes to change the way they use, manage, supply and create electricity with the intention to use less, reduce its effect on the environment and reduce its cost.  In partnership with the private sector and government UK universities are playing an important role to make these goals achievable.

Hitachi Leads Hawaiian Island Maui, Smart Grid Project

The Hawaiian island of Maui is about to become the site of a major Smart Grid project, to demonstrate the latest in smart grid technology.  The project is will be spearheaded by the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) with Hitachi as the lead coordinator and project leader. The project comprises of a mixture of U.S. and Japanese businesses: Cyber Defense Institute, Sharp, Mizuho Bank, Hewlett-Packard Japan, JFE Engineering and Hitachi.

HP has release a wireless PC to TV connector; like the Asus WiCast, the HP Wireless TV Connect allows users to stream wireless 1080p HD multimedia content from your laptop to your TV. The adapters are powered the USB port of the Laptop and simply work by connecting the PC adapter to the Laptop computer and connecting the TV adapter to the HDTV via HDMI, without the need to install any software. The HP Wireless TV Connect fully supports protected content such as Blu-ray and DVD movies.

HP has launched the HP ePrintCenter solutions along with an upgraded version of the HP Photosmart Premium part of its popular e-All-in-One web connected printers. This new model has all the features of the previous models plus a host of user solutions to make it easy to print you documents and photos from anywhere. This new HP Photosmart, according to HP is Cloud aware, meaning you can access documents on the web and you can access the printer from the web and print. It is the first printer that is able to talk to Google cloud without going through a PC.
