SmartSynch Introduces 3G Platform for Smart Meters

SmartSynch has collaborated with Qualcomm to develop a new 3G communication platform for Smart Meters. The new SmartSynch and Qualcomm platform is the world’s first integrated over-the-air application portfolio for the smar grid.  Adapted for its IP-based framework the Qualcomm’s Brew MP platform will help SmartSynch to provide a more flexible and robust wireless infrastructure for Utilities and their customers.

GE, Fuji Electric Create Smart Grid Venture "GE Fuji Meter Ltd"

Fuji and GE have created a new Smart Grid solution company (GE Fuji Meter Ltd) to provide smart grid technology to the Japanese market. According to both companies the joint venture is to design, build, market and service a new generation of electric meters, supporting Japan’s advancement to a smart grid infrastructure. The joint venture was finalized on February 1, 2011 and they have selected GE Energy’s Daniel T. Nakano to head the new venture.

APX Alarm Acquires Meter Solutions

APX Alarm Security Solutions, one of the nation’s largest security and home services companies, has announced the acquisition of Meter Solutions, an independent installation provider of smart meter technologies and solutions. The acquisition broadens APX’s focus on providing smart grid and energy management solutions for consumers.

CES 2011 is building up to be a very exciting show and one not to miss. From what I have seen this year, I think there are some very exciting technologies in the pipeline, especially for the connected home. The connected home has been added as a new area within the show for the first time next year. This is where I think there will be a lot of new solutions.

Cable & Wireless and Current to Offer "PRIME" Smart Metering and Smart Grid Solutions

Cable & Wireless worldwide has partnered with the Current Group to develop smart metering and smart grid solution for UK utility companies. In a deal similar to AT&T and Elster and others in the US, Cable&Wireless will combine its networking solutions with Current’s smart sensors, smart meter data collection and analysis software to offer utilities an end-to-end smart grid solution.

Control4 Selected By Accenture for Singapore Smart Meter Project

Accenture has selected Control4 to participate in a three-year, $30 million AMI pilot funded by Singapore Power and the Singapore government. The Intelligent Energy System (IES) pilot will launch this year in 4,500 residential, commercial and industrial locations and will continue through 2013. Singapore’s Energy Market Authority (EMA) appointed Accenture to design and implement the project. Control4 will provide IP-based home control systems that enable two-way communication with the Smart Grid.

Sequentric Signed Smart Grid Deal with HD Supply Utilities

ESNA To Publish and Maintain Open Smart Grid Protocol (OSGP)

ESNAThe Energy Services Network Association (ESNA) announced today that they are going to publish, maintain and certify devices compatible with the Open Smart Grid Protocol (OSGP). “By publishing OSGP as an open standard” said ESNA “it will enable independent implementation of interoperable smart meters and other smart grid devices. Utilities will have the autonomy to buy best of breed products and avoid vender lock in.

GridNet & Sprint To Offer 4G For Smart Grid and Smart Home

NEC Electronics America, today announced it will highlight the breadth and depth of its smart energy and liquid crystal display (LCD) module offerings at Embedded Systems Conference Boston 2009 (booth #701), September 22-23, at the Hynes Convention Center.
