Atheros has upgraded their XSPAN solutions to offer a better quality viewing of video over wireless.  The XSPAN router solutions (AR938 and AR390) are the world’s first 3-stream 802.11n that supports reliable video over wireless and other bandwidth hungry applications.  The new architecture will boost performance by 50 percent across the entire wireless link, said Atheros.

The router solutions (AR938x and AR9390) combines a powerful 3x3 802.11n architecture with a unique set of range enhancements known as signal sustain Technology-3 or SST3, to boost data throughput.

Atheros said their Wi-Fi solutions are evolving to meet the flexible and stringent needs of media-based applications like IPTV and whole-home video streaming.  By providing a 3-stream wireless router solution customer can use both the 2.4 and 5GHz frequency bands to get the most from their Wi-Fi network.  The 2.4Ghz frequency band could be use for web browsing, email and data while simultaneously using the cleaner 5GHz band for latency-sensitive applications like voice, gaming and video.

“Performance is essential in both corporate and home networks, due to the proliferation of high-bandwidth applications like HD gaming, video distribution and voice-over-IP,” said Gary Szilagyi, Atheros Communications. “Atheros is pushing the envelope of Wi-Fi performance, and has invested heavily in efforts that improve the wireless video experience while meeting customers’ growing demands for bandwidth, quality and reliability.”
