Venstar has release new developer Application Programming Interface (API) for its ColorTouch Thermostats (Models T5800 and T5900). Now, developers can use ColorTouch's built-in API (in firmware updates 3.08 and newer) to create applications that will allow the thermostat to be controlled by third-party applications, including home automation companies.

The new API will also allow home automation companies to control ColorTouch's Mode, Temperature, Schedule, humidity levels and other settings thus, enhancing the user experience of their customers. ColorTouch can also be configured to communicate in: English, French or Spanish.

To support the adaptation of new APIs Venstar has created a developer site, which provides guidance on using the API for creating integrated solutions. It also has examples in a variety of programming languages that will help developers generate the codes needed to create applications.

Also available are free mobile apps for Apple iOS, Android and BlackBerry mobile devices, so contractors or homeowners can remotely access and control their ColorTouch thermostats via their Venstar Skyport Cloud online accounts.

Already, Remote Technologies Incorporated (RTI) has successfully used the ColorTouch API to create a new driver that allows users to control and receive feedback from ColorTouch thermostats on RTI control interfaces.
