LIME Selects Entone's FusionTV To Offer Premium PayTV via Internet

LIME, a Caribbean division of Cable & Wireless is to roll out Entone’s FusionTV services in the region.  Using adaptive bitrate (ABR) and HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) technologies, within the FusionTV solution LIME will offer the first premium PayTV service via the Internet. Program that will be streamed from networks such as CBS, NBC and ABC, sports from ESPN, music from MTV , Nicklodean and lifestyle programs from Warne Brothers.

Cable&Wireless and Silver Spring Included in Isle of Wight Smart Grid Project (EcoIsland)

The UK has joined the rest of the world to start its own Island smart grid project, called the EcoIsland Partnership on the Isle of Wight. Technology partners Cable&Wireless and Silver Spring Networks announced that they have signed a partnership agreement to participate in the project. Like Maui island smart grid project, EcoIsland will use a combination of renewable energy sources to provide electricity to the island’s inhabitants.

Cable&Wireless Worldwide and Silver Spring Networks announced that they are collaborating to accelerate the delivery of smart grid and smart metering in the UK.  The partnership will support the development of the communications fabric for smart grid and smart metering, so that it is secure, upgradable in the future, and capable of supporting multiple applications on a unified network platform.

Gridline Pilots Powerline Broadband in Cumbria Village, Shap

Gridline Communication in partnership with Cable and Wireless Worldwide, Electricity Northwest and T-Systems U.K., has setup a Smart Grid and Broadband over Powerline pilot in the U.K. According to Gridline, The purpose of the pilot is to demonstrate the viability of both consumer broadband services and smart meter operations within a deep rural environment. Full implementation of the project is expected to finish by the end of this month.

IBM, Cable and Wireless Offer UK Utilities Smart Energy Cloud

IBM has found a network and communications solutions provider to partner with for its smart meter monitoring software. They have announced a partnership with Cable and Wireless to develop a UK Smart Energy Cloud to support the UK’s smart meter implementation programme.  Using its smart meter data gathering and analytic platform and supported by Cable and Wireless communications infrastructure IBM hopes to collect and store data gathered from the 50 million smart meters to be install in the in UK homes and business over the next nine years.

Cable & Wireless and Current to Offer "PRIME" Smart Metering and Smart Grid Solutions

Cable & Wireless worldwide has partnered with the Current Group to develop smart metering and smart grid solution for UK utility companies. In a deal similar to AT&T and Elster and others in the US, Cable&Wireless will combine its networking solutions with Current’s smart sensors, smart meter data collection and analysis software to offer utilities an end-to-end smart grid solution.
