Control4 has launched a new family of power control devices for the Control4 smart home. The Pakedge PowerPak Power Distribution Units (PDU) help to protect your connected home appliances against surge protection, and with networking capabilities your dealer can monitor and manage the PowerPak PDUs remotely.  The new PDUs also leverage SafeStart boot sequencing to power on devices such as modems, routers, and switches in the appropriate order – ensuring proper reset and optimal functionality.

Atheros New AR7400 Powerline Chipset is IEEE 1901 and Homeplug AV Compliant

AtherosAtheros recently announced the availability of the AR7400 chipset. The new Powerline Ethernet communication technology is capable of using the existing electrical wiring inside the home to transfer data at up to 500Mbps, a capacity that is 2.5 times faster than what is currently available among Homeplug AV products.  Atheros said with this capacity household should be able to experience HD quality entertainment from every power outlet in the home.
 

MB850 UPS: Panamax Lightweight Battery Back-Up For Home Theater Systems

Panamax announced a new compact and lightweight UPS battery back-up.  The system measures 10.25 inches length by 8.875 inches height by 4.375 inches width and weighs only 16 pounds.   A level down from the Panamax MB1000; the MB850 is an ideal power back-up solution for home theater applications with remotely located A/V equipment or space and weight constraints.

Panamax announced the first product in its new line of UPS battery back-ups: the MB1000.  For home theater systems, the MB1000 prevents critical equipment from losing its setup configuration and stored data, while avoiding hard-disk crashes in the event of a sustained power event, such as a power outage.  In addition, the UPS safeguards projection bulbs by allowing them to cool down properly before shutting off, saving money on replacement costs.
