Norton and Broadcom To Develop Connected Home Anti-Virus Platform

Norton has announced plans to develop a more holistic virus solution for the future connected home and it appliances.  Through the project codenamed, “Apollo”, Symantec's Norton Labs is collaborating with Broadcom the chip manufacture to develop a new security solution for the home. The security software will be pre-built into Broadcom’s based router devices to protect from the gateway.

Honeywell Launches LYNX Touch 5100 Home Security Products

Honeywell has expanded their connected home portfolio with the introduction of two new security and home automation products: LYNX Touch 5100 and Tuxedo Touch Wi-Fi.  Both products were develop for busy parents who cannot be in two places at the same time. With the new solution, parents can control home appliances from their Smartphone, Laptop, Tablet or other web-enabled devices.

Vivint Releases Additional Secondary Control Panel

Customers of the Vivint home automation solution can now install more secondary panel (up to four).  Vivint said they have release the panels so that customer can have increased access to their system’s functions through these secondary panels. The touch-screen panels can be placed strategically throughout the home, giving customers additional points of access.

Comcast Launched Xfinity Home Monitoring and Automation Services

Comcast has launched a home monitoring and automation service for its Vermont customers.  Called the “Xfinity Home”, the service offers a range of security and energy management solutions, such as the ability to manage your thermostats remotely. In addition to asking your neighbour to keep an eye on your home while you are away, you can keep an eye on it as well.  Xfinity Home offers live video stream from your in home wireless cameras.

Help My Home Was Hacked! Not Really

In the future our home will be accessible electronically from anywhere; provided there is internet connection. To go a bit further the model for future home electrical devices and components is they should be communicable, even the light bulb we use. The idea behind the” internet of things” is that every one of these components and devices will have an IP address or addressable, thus the demand for IPv6.  This intercommunication is not a question of if because these technologies are already available.
