Itron Awarded Contract In City of Johannesburg, South Africa

The city of Johannesburg has awarded a contract worth approximately $150million to Itron and Edison power group for the supply of smart meters and supporting technologies.  Itron will work with City Power to implement its latest smart meter solutions, allowing city Power’s customers to better manage their electricity and complements the city’s demand side management program.

City power said, in addition to helping customers save energy and their hard earn money; Central to the project is the investment in black economics empowerment. Edison and Itron will work to develop local skills to ensure local sustainability.

Commenting on the contract,  Itron’s said they believe their technology will provide the foundation for engaging customers and complementing the city’s demand side management program.
