For 2014, the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) has awarded Sony four “Best of Innovations Honoree” Awards.  The honorees were picked from 28 consumer product categories, which now include 3D Printing and Additive Manufacturing, Wearable Technologies and In-Vehicle Experience. From these Sony was able to walk away with awards in Digital Imaging, Headphones, Home Audio/Video Components and Tablets, EReaders & Mobile Computing. To make it five their HT-ST7 Sound Bar received an Innovations Design and Engineering Award in the Home Theater Speakers category.

For most of us buying gifts this Christmas will undoubtedly have a request for a tablet. If the request is not brand specific then the Sony Xperia Tablet S is worth considering. The price is reasonable (just about) for what you are getting and the features are comparable to other tablets on the market.  

Master of the Living Room

In March, Microsoft launched its new look Windows 8 operating system, now they have decided to enhance the sound quality with Dolby Digital Plus. According to Dolby Laboratories, its Dolby Digital Plus was selected by Microsoft for the upcoming Windows 8 tablets and PCs.  All PCs and tablets licensed to run Windows 8, Windows 8 Pro and Windows  RT editions will be able to enjoy Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 channel  and Dolby Digital two channel encoding.

Mobile Operator Deutsche Telekom and on-demand content supplier MobiTV are collaborating to develop a media platform for tablets, mobile phones, PCs, Internet TVs and set-top boxes (STB).  Through the partnership the MobiTV’s TV Everywhere solution will integrate into Deutsche Telekom soon to release converged media services. The MobiTV platform will play a big role is helping Deutsche Telekom to expand into the growing mobile TV market.

With the run up to CES 2012, Control4 has launched a home control app for Android-based smartphones and tablets.  The new App. extends the flexibility of the Control4 home control platform, to provide control over security systems, lighting, music and video using Android.  MyHome for Android has been added to Control4’s MyHome for iPad and iPhone, giving the customer to option to use which ever device they choose to use.

Qualcomm Atheros said Shifta1.0 for Android Smartphones and Tablets is no longer in beta and has received the approval to be in production. Being the first software to received the DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) certified sticker.  Skita transforms your Android-based phone and tablet into a media remote control. Allowing you to access and enjoy your music, videos and photo while at home or on the road.

A Home Run - Berlin, Birmingham and Beijing are no different to Boston or Bangkok: citizens everywhere are spending more and more time connected and are excited about 4G networks, machine-to-machine technology and embedded mobile devices. Amdocs’ market research survey of some 4700 consumers in 14 countries shows that consumers want, and will pay extra for, a “connected home” - a home environment conveniently controlled from residents’ smartphones, tablets, PCs or even connected-TV interfaces.

As a follow up to the ARCHOS 7 and ARCHOS 8 Home Tablets, ARCHOS has launch five new Android tablets. The Internet tablets as they are called, consist of the:  wide screen ARCHOS 70 and 100, multi media ARCHOS 43, and the ultra portable ARCHOS 28 and 32.  The new range offers a combination of PC like web-browsing, social networking, games, eBooks and other apps alongside HD video and music in a very slim-line design.
