DEG Elects New Board & Expand Focus

DEGThe DEG (The Digital Entertainment Group) has elected its new board of directors and executive committee for the fiscal year starting 1 August 2009.  Four of the five executive committee members are re-elected.  The Group have also outlined its priorities for the new year: Strong support of Blu-ray Disc and sustainability and will expand its focus to include a wider variety of home entertainment platforms, including 3D and digital delivery.

Cisco to Offer Video-Chat Television

The Challenging market condition at the moment represents different things to different businesses.  For Cisco it could be coincidental or deliberate that they seem to be refocusing on customer’s homes rather than their business network equipment.  According to The Mercury News website Cisco is working with phone and cable carriers on products and services that let consumers hold video conferences through their televisions, see Cisco to use Medianet to Deliver Next Generation Connected Life at Home Solution.

Sonic Roxio, Fujisoft and Paramount Partnering on New Solution for Nintendo Wii

Nintendo WiiSonic Solutions(R) today announced that it is partnering with Fujisoft Incorporated to deliver premium entertainment to the Nintendo Wii game console. Sonic's Roxio CinemaNow(R) will be providing Hollywood content, beginning with new releases and catalog titles from Paramount Pictures, for Fujisoft's video-on-demand service in Japan, called "Minna no Theater Wii" (Everyone's Theater Wii). The companies will continue to work together in order to expand the range of entertainment available for virtually instant streaming to the TV via the popular game console.

Paramount to Release Greatest Films as Part of Sapphire Series

gladiatorParamount Home Entertainment (PHE) announced today that it will release some of the greatest films ever made for the first time in high definition as part of its exclusive new "Sapphire Series". The Sapphire Series will capitalize on the pristine picture and sound of the Blu-ray format to present each cinematic gem in the highest quality for the first time in two-disc, high definition sets*. The series will kick off on September 1 with two of the most requested Blu-ray releases, Braveheart and Gladiator--both winners of five Academy Awards(R) including Best Picture--followed later in the year by six-time Academy Award(R) winner Forrest Gump.  Each release will include extensive, never-before-seen special features for the ultimate presentation.
