SoftAtHome and Anevia Delivers Digital Home Entertainment

SoftAtHome, a company created by Orange to help service providers deliver convergent applications for the Digital Home, announced today a partnership with Anevia, a leading supplier of IPTV and Video on Demand (VoD) solutions. Under the partnership the two companies have integrated SoftAtHome Operating Platform running on Set Top Boxes (STB) with Anevia’s Video on Demand (VoD) back-end servers to provide telecommunication companies and service providers with the key components to deploy new video services.

mediaroomMicrosoft annouced that they have adapted the Microsoft Mediaroom system to work with virtualization, making Mediaroom the first Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) platform to offer virtualization support. Mediaroom with virtualization can deliver up to a sixfold reduction in the number of physical servers required to support a full-featured IPTV service, significantly reducing hardware and management costs and speeding time to market for Mediaroom customers by up to three weeks.

The Future is Bright for Digital Home Gateway Systems

Research buy Infonetics has shown that the sale of digital home gateway systems are on the increase.  The increase is because more telecom providers are bundling “IPTV into broadband services to increase ARPU.  According to the report, worldwide, digital home gateway sales grew 12 percent”.  The increase is seen in the US, Europe Middle East and Africa.

Ericsson Enters Domestic Market with Connected Home Gateway

Ericsson announced the release of its Connected Home Gateway software.  The new system will be demonstrated at this year Mobile World Congress in Spain.  The new connected home gateway multimedia software will provide a single entry point for telephone, IPTV and other multimedia systems.

Ericsson said the Connected Home Gateway is compliant with major telecom and consumer electronic standard such as IMS, Open IPTV Forum and the Digital Network Alliance.
