ST and SoftAtHome Collaborate on Content Streaming Solution

ST Microelectronics and SoftAtHome have collaborated to develop a client server solution that allows Service Providers to stream content to multiple devices at the sametime.  The solution is built on ST’s STiH205 and STiH416 chipset integrated with SoftAtHome software platform for management and control using the STiH205.

Channel Islands and Isle of Man Get Hybrid TV Services

France’s Neuilly-sur-Seine has partner with Getgem’s hybrid IPTV services to its customer base in Channel Islands and the Isle of Man. Neuilly-sur-Seine is already a broadband provider in both areas; with the Netgem solution Neuilly-sur-Seine will be able to Over the Top (OTT) live and non-linear content to Netgem’s hybrid Set-top boxes (STB).
 

NAGRA OpenTV5 Now Supports Set-top Box and Gateway Platforms

Service providers will welcome the news that NAGRA OpenTV 5 is supported on Set-Top Box, Gateway Platforms and other client devices. In partnership with IC manufacturer Broadcom NAGRA has developed a reference design for the NAGRA HomeCruise platform. The “off-the-shelf” solution now provides an accelerated path for service providers to get their product to market. At last month’s IBC 2012 show, NAGRA showcased the NAGRA HomeCruise microGateway, a solution that will allow service providers to extend their broadcast services in the home.

DSP and Comigo Developed DECT ULE Enabled Set-top Box

On the card at this week’s SmartHomes 2012 conference in Amsterdam is the showcasing of a new set-top box home automation solution from DSP Group and Comigo. Both companies have joined their respective technologies to develop the solution based on DECT Ultra Low Energy (ULE) technology.

DSP  and Comigo believe that home automation is a natural extension of home entertainment, and the integration of the two technologies will enable consumers to control and monitor the entire home from the comfort of the living room with Comigo's hybrid set-top box.

Now Sophos Wants to Protect our TVs from Viruses

It is the operating systems on our TVs that make it smart and with most of us now buying smart TVs there is an emerging threat of hackers writing infectious malware to infect our televisions. This has lead Sophos to form partnership with Ocean Blue to developed an antivirus software for smart TVs. The solution combines Sophos antivirus platform with Ocean Blue’s middleware for smart TVs and Set-top Boxes.

Greenpeak Offers First Dual-Protocol Zigbee Chip, GP710

Makers of set-top boxes, gateways and smart home controllers with Zigbee RF4CE should now find it easier to integrate home automation into their smart home products.  That is because Greenpeak, a semiconductor company has release a new chip (GP710) that supports Zigbee RF4CE and Zogbee IP/Zigbee PRO protocols.  Therefore, products developed with the GP710 chip will be able to extend their functionality within the home.

Entropic Unveils Chipset For Set-Top Box Market

Entropic has launched a new System-on-Chip solution for set-top box (STB) market. The new “TSC17x/18x” STB SoC family features a dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 processors and advanced security to provide the latest platform for service operators and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). It offers support for a wide range of mobile software technologies such as Google Android 4.0 “Ice Cream Sandiwich” and established industry security standards (NOCS, CSA3, AES, NDS NSK etc).

ADB Carbo Powers VOO New HD Set-top Box

carboVOO has selected ADB’s (Advanced Digital Broadcast) ADB-2840C high definition set-top box with the Carbo platform to upgrade its television services.  The Belgium based broadband and cable television services provider said they needed to upgrade its TV services to include high definition.  Key to the solution is the Carbo software, an award winning and international recognized pay-tv user interface.
