Is Google TV The Missing Link In The Connected Home?

Envisioning a home where every electronic devices are connected was once in the realm of science fiction, and mostly pursue by gadget geeks and science fiction enthusiast. This is changing and camera trickery are becoming a reality, faster than we can imagine. Last month the world’s biggest content provider – Google along with other consumer electronics and software partners (Intel, DISH Network, Adobe, Sony and Logitech) announced Google TV, a platform that promises to change Television and home entertainment as we know it.

Boxee Licensed RoxioNow Platform from Sonic Solutions

Boxee announced that they have licences the RoxioNow entertainment platform from Sonic Solutions.  Boxee said the alliance is to give the public more options to access premium content for a range of connected devices.  The RoxioNow platform will be Boxee’s choice platform to its web-to-TV desktop application, as well as upcoming set-top boxes, mobile devices and TVs.*
 

D-Link & CTERA Add Cloud Backup Services to NAS Device DNS-323

Starting this week owners of the DNS-323 ShareCenter Network Attached Storage (NAS) solution can backup their data to an external storage solution provider online. That is because D-Link has updated the DNS-323 with support for online backup services by CTERA, to safeguard against data loss. The service is totally automated and does not require PC software installation and works automatically directly from the NAS appliance.

D-Link has announced a new firmware upgrade for its DIR-685 Xtreme N Storage Router. The firmware is to allow new features and integrated support for DLNA devices, these are:  Digital Media Server (DMS) that enables media file transfers and management of connection between the server and DLNA devices. The DIR-685 comes with a built-in Network Attached Storage (NAS) feature that includes a Universal Plug and Play (UPnP®) AV media server; Digital Media Controller (DMC) that gives users the option to control any UPnP device connected to the router using the touchpad on the DIR-685; Digital Media Rendering (DMR) for the improved playback of certain media files on the DIR-685’s LCD screen. The DIR-685 is available for $159.00.

Carlo Gavazzi Previewed Windows CE Smart House Web Server

At this week’s Home Technology Show in London, Carlo Gavazzi previewed their smart-house home automation solution,  a web server application that allows you to access, manage, control and monitored it from anywhere in the world.  Home owners will be able to securely login to the smart-house system and control lighting, scene setting and curtain control they also will be able to view or adjust (actual temperature, temperature set points and real-time values).

Intamac Secured £4M Funding to Develop Web Based Energy Monitoring System

Intamac a supplier of internet access monitoring and control solution has received £4 million invested funding from a group of London based investors.  The group includes Chados Capital Ventures, Carbon Trust Investment and Seraphim Capital.  Intamac recently announced a home monitoring solution with D-Link and has an ongoing relationship with British Telecom, Technicolor, Alcatel Lucent, and IAG.

Introducing D-Link Xtrame N 450 Wireless Gigabit Router (DIR-665)

D-Link has released its fastest wireless router yet, the Xtrame N 450 Gigabit Router (DIR-665). It is their first 802.11n Wi-Fi router with 3x3 MIMO technology, and one of the fastest Wi-Fi router on the market.  The DIR-665 uses three distinct data streams in a multiple-input and multiple-output smart antenna which allow for data rates of up to 450Mbps 150Mbps higher than the regular wireless router.
