Netflix and Universal Studios Home Entertainment in DVD, Blu-ray and Content Streaming Deal

NetflixNetflix customers can now watch movies released by Universal Studios Home Entertainment 28 days after their release. Universal Studios Home Entertainment made the announcement today. In the deal new releases on DVD and Blu-ray will have a four weeks period by which time Universal should make enough sales of its physical and digital offerings. After this window Netflix customers will be able to stream the latest Universal releases from Netflix to their TVs and computers.

Renesas & NEC Electronics Merged to Fight off Competition

RenesasRenesas president Yasushi Akao issued a letter to shareholders outlining his plans for the newly merged Renesas and NEC Electronics. In his letter Mr. Akao said they will focus on three key areas of technology; microcontrollers, SoC solutions, and analog & power devices as its core product areas.  He also said he hope to attain operating for profit for fiscal year ending March 2011, and net profits for fiscal year ending March 2012.

UK Government Reveals Plans for Digital Britain and Fast Broadband

The Prime minister of the Britain today outline new measures to put British‘s home internet access inline with the rest of Europe and the world.  At the moment majority of the homes in the country only has access to speed less than 4.5Mbps (megabit per second).  The government is proposing a £6-a-year charge on landlines to fund the project.

Within the last three or more years the idea of living a digital life style or having a connected home has come closer to being a reality than it has for the last ten. With organizations such as DLNA and UPnP working to establish standards the industry has come leaps and bounds. As things are at the moment the solutions are there for us to access our home from anywhere and at anytime.
