Although Wi-fi is in nearly 100 percent of shipped laptop Bluetooth loges behind at a significantly lower number.  It is estimated that the ratio will change by 2014 to having Bluetooth in 90 percent of laptops shipped.  The Broadcom InConcert Bluetooth and Wi-Fi modules were chosen by five of the top Laptop manufactures Asus and Samsung included for their netbook and notebook devices.
 

Broadcom Upgrade its Bluetooth for Windows Software

Bluetooth has upgraded it’s BTW (Bluetooth for Windows) to version 6.4.  This new version it to facilitate better interaction between Bluetooth devices – that are based on the windows operating system, and to help drive more advance Bluetooth functionality into a wider collection of consumer connectivity applications.  Included in BTW 6.4 are two new profiles that extend Bluetooth enabled devices to communicate with other devices.

Broadcom Released Single-Chip 802.11n Dual-Band 3x3 Wireless Chip

The BCM4331 chip is the newest member of the Broadcom Intesi-fi range to offer consumer a better wireless multimedia experience.  The new single-chip solution achieves up to 450Mbps data rates in client devices such as laptops and over 600Mbps throughput (TCP/IP) in 3x3 AP/router configurations.  With Broadcom’s new Intensi-fi system-on-chip (SoC) solution HD video content can be downloaded to a notebook computer 50 percent faster than existing 802.11n 2x2 technologies.

Microsoft Silverlight Goes System on Chip (SoC)

silverlightMicrosoft has announced that Silverlight is to be embedded as a System on Chip (SoC) solution for manufacturers and developers of set-top boxes, Blu-ray disc players, internet connected TVs and other connected home devices. Microsoft said they are working with Intel and Broadcom on the new architecture and visitor to this week’s NAB Show in Las Vega will see a demo version of the technology.
