Meet Canary, The Smart Smoke Detector

We have smart light bulbs, thermostat and now we have a smart smoke detector, the “Canary”. It was a surprise to me that no one had thought about it before but guys at Canary thought that it would be a good idea to create smart smoke and carbon monoxide detector.  I think they are onto something good, because most smoke and CO detectors on the market don’t offer this level of sophistication.

Marmitek has launched a new company for the further development and distribution of Marmitek Home Automation and security systems: Haibrain BV. Haibrain is not just the manufacturer and supplier of Marmitek Home Automation and Security. As a brand house, it also offers a complete range of products in the area of home automation (domotics), security and comfort systems.

Product lines from brands such as Electronics Line, Honeywell and Insteon are available as of now. Haibrain offers a one stop shop concept for (security) installers and home automation resellers.

Intel's Working on Home Automation Platform

From far back as 2009 (see Intel’s Vision) we saw how Intel was making small steps to position themselves to take advantage of the now internet of everything market.  Back then, they called it Consumer Electronic 3.0 and they gave a glimpse of what they think the future connected home will look like. Last week via engadget they showed a proof-of-concept platform that they have been working on.

The new Control4 Anywhere Access enables homeowners to securely access, manage and control their home remotely.  The upgraded 4Sight Service now sends out configured alerts to inform you about your home, giving you the peace of that your home is being monitored.

One HomeOS To Rule All Appliances

Microsoft behind the scene has been studying and researching different features of the future connected home. Through its Microsoft Connected Home research centre they have been developing a number of products and services for the home of the future.  In addition to fancy gadgets and digital lifestyle services they have been researching the idea of developing an operating system (OS) strictly for the home; dubbed the HomeOS.  According to Microsoft the HomeOS will “simplify the management fo home networks and the development of applications” for the connected home. To accomplish it will provide a central point to manage, configure and secure you home network.

TiO Releases Details of Home Automation Products

tioTiO, a subsidiary of Automated Control Technology Partners (ACTP), said they will start shipping their new range of home automation and multi-room audio products this August. The suite of Android based solutions features Wi-Fi based music streaming, multi-zone audio, wireless lighting and climate control; all controlled by their own TiO touchscreens controllers or Android tablets.
