The Digital Home of the Future

Within the last three or more years the idea of living a digital life style or having a connected home has come closer to being a reality than it has for the last ten. With organizations such as DLNA and UPnP working to establish standards the industry has come leaps and bounds. As things are at the moment the solutions are there for us to access our home from anywhere and at anytime. There is a huge push in technology development that is accelerating the implementation of the digital home areas that I see are: media streaming, home automation, embedded technology (android, system-on-chip), connectivity and always on internet.

Pace Acquired Bewan to Grow Converged Digital TV Solutions

NEC Includes TwonkyMedia and MediaFusion in Femtocell Solution

At this year’s Mobile World Congress, NEC demonstrated their Femtocell solution which offers PacketVideo’s TwonkyMedia connected home applications and MediaFusion content management and delivery platform.  The solution is the result of collaboration between PacketVideo and NEC Corporation.  The Femtocell solution is aimed at both consumers and mobile service providers.

A technology collaboration between Ericsson and Netgear has created a new  3G mobile broadband router, the MBRN3300. The new MBRN3300 3G wireless router with internal 3G radio, is a combination of Netgear’s wireless, routing, firewalls and IP network technology and Ericsson’s expertise in 3G mobile networks. The MBRN3300 is available now and will be demonstrated at this month’s GSMA Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain.

Motorola logoIPTV operators with Motorola NBBS can now provide additional services to customers with Mediaroom certified set-top-box.  According to Motorola Home and Network Mobility, they have expanded the NBBS remote device management software platform to include Microsoft Mediaroom certified set-top-box, to enable operator to accelerate the introduction of new revenue-generating high-definition IP video experience.
