DLNA Releases New Interoperability Guidelines

As part of this week’s Connected Home Global Summit 2011 in London the Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) is releasing a new Interoperability Guidelines for the playback of commercial media content. The new guideline will make it easier for residential customers to stream video content to in home devices such as DLNA certified Blu-ray disc players, connected TVs, game consoles and set-top boxes.

Home Gateway Initiative Sets Strategy for the Connected Home

To prepare for the next generation of connected home services and devices the Home Gateway Initiative (HGI) met in Paris to draw up its long term strategy.  As the voice for the world’s Broadband Service Providers (BSP), the initiative is the body responsible for translating BSP’s service plans into published technology requirements. Those at the meeting included Samsung, France Telekom and device manufacturers.

GreenWave and NXP Developed Smart IP Lighting Solution

GreenWave has partnered with NXP Semiconductor to develop a new intelligent lighting control and management solution.  The solution is a combination of GreenWave Reality energy management platform with NXP’s GreenChip.  It will allow manufacture of energy-efficient compact fluorescent (CFL) and solid state light to create lights that we can communicate with individually.

Netgear Released N750 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router

Netgear has announced the release of its N750 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router (WNDR4000). At wireless data rate of up to 750 megabits per second (Mbps), the N750 powers through intense wireless tasks such as streaming HD video, multiplayer gaming and large file transfers. The N750 also acts as a DLNA Media Server for streaming video, music and photos from any storage device plugged into its USB port to DLNA-enabled.

Thing seems to be Atheros today launches the industry’s first HomePlug Green PHY solutions development kit.  The M2M (machine-to-machine) communication development kit consists of a hardware platform based on existing HomePlug AV silicon.

Fujitsu Launched Fibre to the Home Project For Rural Britain

Britain's rural internet access is changing as Fujitsu unveiled plans to build a superfast fibre optic, Fibre to the Home (FTTH) broadband network for approximately 5 millions homes in rural Britain. According to Fujitsu, they have partnered with Cisco, the network solutions provider, Virgin Media and Talk Talk two of the UKs broadband retailers, to provide residents with the service.

ZigBee Smart Energy Version 2.0 Technical Documents Now Available for Comment

The Zigbee Alliance community members and the public are being asked to submit their comments on the Zigbee Smart Energy v2.0 revised technical documents and Public Application Profile. The new standard offers a range of new features including IP-based control for advance metering infrastructure and home area networks (HAN).  Over the next few weeks the alliance is hoping received feedback to take the standard forward.
