Advanced Digital TV Test Center (ADTC) Is China’s First DLNA Test Lab

dlnaThe Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) as named Advanced Digital TV Test Center (ADTC), a part of CESI Technology, as the first DLNA test lab in China.  The program is sponsored by the China Electronics Standardization Institute (CESI), a comprehensive institute of electronic information technology under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) of the People's Republic of China.  Having a base in China will allow the DLNA to certify devices being develop by the growing number of manufacturers setting up bases there.

Intel Buys Texas Instruments' Cable Modem Business

Intel Corporation today announced it has signed an agreement to acquire Texas Instruments' cable modem product line. The purchase enhances Intel's focus on the cable industry and related consumer electronics (CE) market segments, where the company's expertise in building advanced system-on-chip (SoC) products, based on Intel(R) Atom(TM) processors, will be applied.The agreement is subject to regulatory review and customary closing conditions. It is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2010.

The Multimedia over Coax Alliance (MoCA) today announced the ratification of MoCA 2.0,  giving OEM and operators a clear roadmap for them to invest and develop technologies that will serve the gorwing need for better connected devices.  The new standard will benefit technologies such as multi-room DVR, broadband extension and PC-to-TV connectivity, that will provide consumers with more robust, satisfying whole-home networking experiences.

Dell to Launch Android Tablet Streak in the UK and US this Summer

Dell enters Tablet market with ‘Streak’, a new android based tablet. The Streak tablet (see photo below) is due early June in the UK and will be sold exclusively by O2 the mobile phone and mobile network supplier.  It will also be available in US but not until later this summer. We are not told who it the States will be the retailer and Dell is not giving anything away by saying about the price or  if there would be a CDMA, LTE, or WiMAX version (i.e. Verizon, Sprint or Clear) available, so right now it is the usual GSM suspects  AT&T and/or T-Mobile.

T-Mobile MyTouch 3G Slide with Google Android

T-Mobile US is to release its second Android Mobile phone next month (June). The myTouch 3G Slide – as it is called, is an upgrade to the myTouch 3G released last year. The myTouch 3G Slide offers more typing space with a slide QWERTY us who rather a physical button to press than the on screen touch on the myTouch 3G. Also upgraded is the camera which has a 5-magapixel for better resolution.

Dolby and Nokia Collaborated Nokia N8’s Dolby Digital Sound

The Nokia N8 is the first mobile phone to have Dolby surround sound technology. According to Dobly this is a world first for mobile phones.  The Nokia N8 is based on the Symbian3 OS platform and features Dolby(R) Digital Plus 5.1 surround sound technology.  With the new Dolby Digital sound, owners of the can now expect the best in High Definition sound quality from their mobile.

Renesas & NEC Electronics Merged to Fight off Competition

RenesasRenesas president Yasushi Akao issued a letter to shareholders outlining his plans for the newly merged Renesas and NEC Electronics. In his letter Mr. Akao said they will focus on three key areas of technology; microcontrollers, SoC solutions, and analog & power devices as its core product areas.  He also said he hope to attain operating for profit for fiscal year ending March 2011, and net profits for fiscal year ending March 2012.
