Denon is celebrating 100 years in business this year and has announced the release of two Blu-ray players and ten Audio/Video Receivers. The new systems are due out in the coming months and promise the latest in home entertainment. Features include media streaming, auto firmware update and the ability to integrate with other home control systems.
MIPS announced this week that they are forming a collaborative partnership with Imagination Technologies. Both companies will combine their specialist areas; MIPS, a specialist in processor architecture and cores for connected home devices and Imagination, a specialist in communication and multimedia (graphics and video) and the owners of POWERVRtm, a Universal Scalable Shader Engine (USSE) base graphic accelerator. TiVo today announced a new wireless adapter for in home wireless transfer of digital data. The new Wireless N Adapter works with TiVo Premiere, TiVo HD, TiVo Series3 HD or TiVo Series2 dual-tuner DVRs. Anyone who hasn’t got the network to move their media content around can use this adapter.

Seagate announced that they begun distributing Paramount movies on some of its FreeAgent Go portable hard drives. The deal with Paramount Digital Entertainment has allowed Seagate to ship specially marked FreeAgent Go hard drives with some of Paramount’s movies. Microsoft has announced that Silverlight is to be embedded as a System on Chip (SoC) solution for manufacturers and developers of set-top boxes, Blu-ray disc players, internet connected TVs and other connected home devices. Microsoft said they are working with Intel and Broadcom on the new architecture and visitor to this week’s NAB Show in Las Vega will see a demo version of the technology.
At last month’s DistribuTECH in Florida NEC Electronics America demonstrated a range of smart home products and solutions through the use of a prototype smart home. The Technologies developed to Zigbee standards include LED lighting, smart thermostats, user control-panel and smart meters.
