Due to electricity distribution lost and theft utilities worldwide are losing  approximately $100 US Billion each year, and this increases by about 2.5% per year. Utility solutions provider Awesense, think they have a solution that will help utilities to reduce their power lost, with the launch of a new smart grid analytics solution called True Grid Insight (TGI).

Telefónica and NEC Trial Virtual Set-Top Box in Brazil

As a virtualisation professional I was excited to learn that Telefónica and NEC are working together to use virtualisation as part of their communication and home entertainment platform. The platform will form part of Telefónica Set-Top Box solution – called, the virtualized customer-premises equipment (vCPE). The solution is due to start its trial early this year in Brazil.

TiVo's Set-Top Box Roamio is Control4 Certified

TiVo has joined the list of hardware manufactures to partner with Control4 to allow users central management of their home’s automation and entertainment systems.  Starting with the Roamio range of TiVo’s set-top box (with DVR, multiscreen and streaming services) customers will be able to manage their TiVo system from within Control4, along with their lighting and other connected services.

Upgrade Your Asustor NAS to ADM2

Network Attached Storage (NAS) manufacturer Asustor has upgraded its NAS software platform the Asustor Data Master (ADM) to version 2.0.  New Apps added include Mission Backup, FTP Explorer and Searchlight search engine. App Central has also been updated and two mobile Apps have been added.  The user interface optimized to allow you to upload your own desktop wallpaper, pin frequently used Apps to the ADM menu bar and arrange the order of your Apps.

Fujitsu Develops New Remote Access Solution for Smart Devices

The people at Fujitsu laboratories said they have come up with a solution that will make it easier for us to access and manage our digital content.  The marketing department hasn’t come up with a name for it yet, I will just call it, ‘the solution’.  Fujitsu said this with this solution you will be able to access files at home or in the cloud and be able to edit them from any mobile device.

The reason for this new solution said Fujitsu is to reduce the cost of cloud storage and to make it easier for us to access and manage our digital content on the go.

Leveraging Qualcomm Life’s 2net and HealthyCircles wireless platform; WebMD, AHA (American Heart Association) and BioScrip, plus more than 35 other solution providers have developed solutions that seamlessly capture, transfer and share health data between the home and hospital.

The connected car solution provider QNX has developed another connected concept car, which according one of the developers Alex James, takes the concept of a connected car to the next level.  Last year they modified a Bentley Continental but this year they are keeping the car identity under wrap until the show on January 7.
